RESEARCH CONCLUSION

Product 1 - Magazine

Main concept/overarching idea -

Corny 90s/2000s girl pop group, parodying/paying homage to spice girls, etc

How will this concept fit into the genre? -

Girl groups are one of the most popular and recognisable themes in 90s/2000s pop, loads of examples like spice girls, sugababes, destinys child, TLC, blaque, atomic kitten and girls aloud. They typically range from 3-5 members, with intentionally contrasting styles for each member. (scary spice, sporty spice, baby spice, etc etc)

How will this concept attract the specific audience -

The target demographic for girl pop groups is usually teen girls, so I should use stereotypically girly things like bold makeup, fashionable outfits and bright, upbeat themes and colours.

Core values of TCO London -

TCO encourages uniqueness and creativity. By making my magazine defy stereotypes and create something different, it should fit the publishing company.

Technical codes (Mise-en-scene, camerawork, etc) -

Costume : girly and bold and 90s, Lighting : bright and overhead, Colour scheme : BRIGHT, setting : block colour background, camerawork : high flattering angle, half-body or full-body

Write about the representations this mise-en-scene will produce -

WOMEN POWER, creating strong female figures for younger audience to look up to, empowering femininity and all things "girly"

Write about how you intend to use intertextuality in your product -

homage to spice girls, knock-off name like seasoning babes or something

Product 2 - Website

How I'm going to use media language of websites and conventions of web design and what a pop magazine website should look like -

Modern music magazines typically have very minimalist and monochrome design, regardless of gender. However, since I want my design to be 90s/2000s, I'd like to base my website design on old girls flashgame websites, with very bright colours and lots of images.

Write about how these design choices are going to attract your audience -

The themes of fashion girls games and websites would potentially appeal to teenage girls, whereas the nostalgic 2000s/90s feel of the band, magazine and website would also appeal to older individuals.

On my website, I will include a page of this fake band that I have made, promoting both their magazine issue and potentially clips that talk about an upcoming tour or album. I will have links to social media of the mag company, such as Instagram or Twitter, where the new issue is promoted. By doing this, it targets the demographic of teens and young adults, who use social media more frequently. This website will reflect the record company, and its values of uniqueness and easy access to popular culture. The visual graphics of this website, e.g clips, many colourful pictures and doodle-style overlays, are very eye-catching. I will also be using the hooking taglines magazines often do, with articles discussing celebrity gossip, or competitions and giveaways.

The profile and target demographic of my magazine and website would likely be mainly female and young. Their values/attitudes/lifestyles would likely be trendy, stylish, fashion-oriented, and fun-seeking, which matches the fashionable and feminine values of my magazine.

Product 2
There were very few examples of pop-mag websites from the decades that I have chosen, so I will be combining the generic layout of the menu and content on a music-mag website with the style of girly 2000s flashgames, using vibrant colours and lots of flashy graphics, in order to keep the feel of the website similar to the magazine. I will use the logo of the publishing house/record label, links that allow the viewer to "purchase" issues of the magazine, and use images that show behind-the-scenes shots of the photoshoots, and potentially clips that introduce the band. I will also use links to social media, as many mags do to promote their material.
